"To qualify for ice climbing, you have to pass a test. The doctor holds a flashlight to your ear. If he can see light coming out the other one, you qualify."

Chairman Chatter (and other info)

Where has the summer gone! Hopefully, you had a great one, and had the opportunity to tackle the climbs you had on your spring list. It's hard to believe that winter is upon us, but don't let that slow you down. If you prefer rock, take a winter road trip to a warmer climate such as Joshua Tree, or for great sport climbing closer to home, try the Golden Cliffs or Shelf Road. These short days can stir be fun.

For those with less smarts, its time to turn your attention to the winter ice. As we did last year, a Tech Section Ice Climbing trip will be organized. Stay tuned for details in the next newsletter or the Tech Section Hotline (see instructions above).

The November election meeting is important. Be there or risk being elected..............!

Good Climbing. - Tom

ELDO UPDATE

Did you know that over 210,000 people visit the half square mile inner canyon portion of the park? This places a tremendous strain on the park's spectacular but fragile resources. Everyone who uses the park must take personal responsibility to the lands we are loving to death. Although individual action is critical, another key to protecting the park is public-private partnerships.

Currently, there are two organizations that have spearheaded trail improvement projects. They are the American Mountain Foundation (AMF), based in Colorado Springs, and the Action Committee For Eldorado (ACE). The AMF works internationally for the advancement of mountain sports and for the preservation of the natural environment. ACE was established in 1992 as a nonprofit corporation dedicated to environmentally and natural resource protection for Eldorado State Park. Representatives from The Access Fund, The American Alpine Club, The AMF, The American Mountain Guides Association, and the CMC make up the board. If you can't participate in Eldo clean up or trail days, consider donating to the AMF or ACE. Contact Eldorado Canyon State Park directly at 494-3943.

Please see North Table Mountain under the CMC Information Service for up to date information on access to North Table Mountain.
