CMC members are encouraged to sign a petition “Citizens for Glenwood Canyon Scenic corridor” stating if Colorado Highway Department insists on a new road, the canyon not be destroyed.

The Colorado Mountain Trails Foundation has named Gudy Gaskill the Executive Trail Director of the Colorado Trail. There will be a system of “interconnecting trails from Denver to Durango.”

It was recently reported that the controversial Marble Ski Area, beset with problems ranging from mudslides to illegal lot sales, filed for bankruptcy.

All programs and events are held at Horticulture Hall, Denver Botanic Gardens, 1005 York Street.

50 years ago

To help raise the large budget necessary to put on the World Ski Championships, the Southern Rocky Mountain Ski Association (of which each CMC members is a member) announces the following: On Nov. 11, a Gala Ski Ball at the Lincoln Room of the Shirley-Savoy. Fashion show by Denver Dry Goods Company. Door prize: a trip to Aspen. Tickets at the CMC.

The first two Showshoe Hikes are scheduled as follows: December 4: Jones Pass area and December 11: Dry Gulch near Loveland Pass.

For ice skating, there will be either a night or Sunday trip to Homewood and perhaps a trip to Evergreen. Details will reach you by postcard.

Are you acquainted with the “Winter Soup Pots”? Into their spacious cavities go all brands and flavors of soup, and sometimes beans, a little water, and a scoop of snow. Out in cold crisp air, after a few hours of exertion, nothing tastes better than this soup cooking over the fire.

75 years ago

All members who wish to participate in skiing should provide themselves with a substantial harness for their skis, and also wear a heavy pair of oiled shoes. A discussion of the trip will take place on the Friday evening preceding the trip in the Club Rooms at 202 Denver Chamber of Commerce Building.

Several members felt that $1.75 was more than should have been charged for the Club’s Denver Annual Dinner and Meeting in Daniels & Fisher; however, it is the only available hall large enough to serve 200 or more, and must bring in help to open for an evening meal.

Superintendent of Rocky Mountain National Park, Roger Toll, sent the CMC a letter of thanks for their financial assistance in competing the trail to Fern Lodge.
