Corporate Partnerships enrich the Mountain Discovery ProgramTwo outdoor industry manufacturers have recently contributed more than $2,000 worth of support to the Mountain Discovery Program. Back Country Access donated two of their Tracker digital rescue beacons to the Avalanche Science program. This program is unique in the world, teaching avalanche awareness to kids, as well as making connections to the science concepts they are studying in school. Our idea is to spark interest in science through intriguing topics. In addition to using hands-on activities to introduce concepts such as avalanche prone slope angles, snow morphology and essential backcountry equipment, the program uses avalanche transceivers in a fun team building activity. Last summer we introduced a new type of water study for students and backcountry travelers, Water and the Wilderness Traveler. PUR, Inc. donated 16 Voyageur water purifiers, as well as a cash donation for a small pond in the Interactive Student Lab in the American Mountaineering Center.
