Partnerships with the Mountain Discovery ProgramThe Colorado Mountain Club is working with several collaborative programs in 1999-2000 to bring our unique knowledge to young people throughout the metro area. We look forward to introducing our Outreach Program throughout Colorado in 2000. Wonders in Neighborhoods, Wonders in Nature (WIN WIN) is a collaboration between the Denver ZOO, Colorado Division of Wildlife, and numerous environmental education organizations, including the CMC. WIN WIN is intended to make natural science part of the daily lives of urban citizens, increasing their understanding of the natural environment and their roles and responsibilities in relation to nature. This collaboration is a wonderful opportunity for the CMC to reach out to urban youth. This winter fifth graders from Denver will take field trips to the American Mountaineering Center for the Avalanche Science program. In addition to subsidizing the bus and program fees, WIN WIN employs multi-cultural teachers who visit the school classrooms before and after the field trips to increase learning, translate the material into Hmong and Spanish, and provide support to the classroom teachers. Another collaborative educational relationship is the SCFD Alliance Project. One middle school in each of the six Denver metro counties is selected from a pool of applicants to establish collaborative programming and support from the arts and science organizations in Tier II of the SCFD. After identifying a specific challenge the school faces, partners help to develop a list of educational programs and activities. In addition to standard field trips to the Mountain Discovery Program, we are planning a special high altitude event for up to 300 students in the Alliance Project. This winter we are partnering with the Girl Scouts of Mile Hi Council for a series of events. Girls will participate in the Physiology with an Altitude and Avalanche Science programming at the American Mountaineering Center. DON'T FORGET TO ORDER YOUR TICKETS FOR THE ROYAL ROBBINS
