Trail & Timberline featuresLove in the CMC: how members of the Colorado Mountain Club found love and each other (tho' not in that order!) |
25 years ago:The legendary bugling of the mature bull elk will soon be echoing throughout the hills and valleys of Rocky Mountain National Park. The CMC urges all who plan to be in the park to obserrve the quiet rules so that all may view the elk and be enthralled by the magic of the sounds of nature. Denver Group adopts hard hat requirements for all their rock climbers and more adventurous peak baggers. On any trip sponsored by CMC-Denver where a hard hat is required, headgear will be checked by the leader. 50 years ago:At the Denver board of directors meeting, the petition for a second phone in the Club Rooms was considered. There was a lengthy discussion. All agreed it would be an added convenience, but a rent increase was due and a second phone was not possible. The Snowmass outing was a great success. Their difficult climbs were completed in spite of heavy rains spread through the outing. The Denver CMC Annual Dinner and Meeting will be held this year at the Daniels and Fisher Tea Room. 75 years ago:The Club Room is now #202 in the Denver Chamber of Commerce building, and our secretary is now there 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every day but Saturday. Over fifty people went on the Mt. Evans trip, and forty-six registered at the top. On this trip, each person provided for his own meals. General opinion seems to be that this scheme is not successful, as a good deal of the fun of a trip comes from eating together. The Fort Collins Group lists the Autumn Foliage Tripa repeat of last year. Alpine Trail as far as the falls on the Big South Poudre. Ride back fifty-five miles down the Poudre by moonlight. Start at 6 a.m. Bring $1.60 and two lunches. |
