Roy Gorin By Linda Griffin Roy Gorin was born November 16, 1914, in Arden, Nevada and died October 29, 2003 in Lakewood, Colorado. A veteran of World War II, he had a successful career in the U.S. Government spanning more than three decades. He retired in Denver from the Air Force accounting and finance center, where he managed the data processing system. He was “the guy who paid the Air Force.” An avid mountaineer, skier, golfer, and fisherman, he was a member of the National Ski Patrol for more than four decades and served on the Loveland Basin Ski Patrol until he was in his 80s. In the 1930s and 1940s, he was active in the Sierra Club and participated on several high-profile climbing rescues. His first wife, DeDe, was a fellow skier and Sierra Club member and mother of his two children, Linda Griffin and Douglas Gorin. Roy and DeDe continued to be actgively involved in the Sierra Club’s Rock Climbing and Ski Mountaineer sections in California for many years. His second wife, Virginia, and her family were his companions during his retirement. Roy and Ginny traveled extensively in their motor home for many years and enjoyed their mountin cabin. Ginny preceded him in death by only two months. When asked how he wanted to be remembered, he said, “I have memories of a long and varied life, both socially and professionally.” |
