The Giving Tree By Christine Haddon, It is with great pleasure that we announce that the CMC's second annual Mountain Festival--Where the Mountains Meet the Sky was a success. Many thanks to all of the volunteers, attendees, sponsors, and staff that helped us reach (and exceed) our fundraising goals. All proceeds from the Mountain Festival benefit CMC conservation and education programs. The Landscape Art Show Gala was the place to be on October 9, 2003. CMC members and guests traveled from near and far to join us on this very special night. With nearly eighty works of art on display, the conference center was transformed into an art gallery featuring paintings and sculpture from across the west. The other events of the opening weekend were well attended and received rave reviews from attendees. The two-night presentation of Mountainfilm from Telluride featured a dozen films covering everything from bouldering and kayaking to ground-breaking expeditions to the world's most extreme locales. The CMC Press hosted a book festival to celebrate the release of its newest publication, The Essential Guide to Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve by Charlie and Diane Winger. The weekend came to a close with a breath-taking presentation by adventure photographer Gordon Wiltsie. The final weekend launched the stage production of K2 by Patrick Meyers, keeping audiences on the edge of their seats. This year's Mountain Festival drew crowds of CMC members and non-members to the American Mountaineering Center in Golden. We were able to sign up several new members and increase visibility and awareness of the CMC and its mission to the event attendees, surrounding communities, and members. Be sure to mark your calendars for next year's Mountain Festival--you won't want to miss it. As 2003 comes to an end, the development office has been working to broaden our base of support to include CMC members as well as businesses in the community and corporate support. Many of the corporate sponsors and supporters are new to the Colorado
