Art show dazzles By Rolf Asphaug The gala opening night of “Where the Mountains Meet the Sky”—the Colorado Mountain Club’s art show at the new conference center in the American Mountaineering Center—took place September 26th. Photos of the event and locale, including photos of the AMC’s new climbing wall in action, can be seen at: http://homepage.mac.com/rolfdenver/PhotoAlbum7.html. Running through Sunday October 6th, this fine art exhibit and sale featured artworks by twenty-six of the country’s finest landscape painters. The opening night was a smashing success. Visitors included American Alpine Club president Jim Frush, recently back from two first ascents in the Himalayas and in town to celebrate the AAC’s 100th anniversary board meeting. This event could not have taken place without the outstanding efforts of many volunteers, including the boards of directors of the CMC and the Colorado Mountain Club Foundation, and most of all the drive and vision of the CMC’s Executive Director, Kristy Judd, and Curator Rose Glaser. Special thanks also to sponsors: Scientific & Cultural Facilities District; Gill Foundation—Gay & Lesbian Fund of Colorado; REI; National Geographic Trails Illustrated Maps; Terry Rigg and Artcomm; Sandy Elliott and John Wright; and Heinie Foss. |
