Wild Colorado

Plan now to join the outing to Austria, Italy, and Yugoslavia led by Jim MacDonald. The outing will be composed of four groups, with all levels of hiking, and a fifth group for ambitious hikers.

If you have a favorite gorp recipe, send it to T&T, and we’ll let the staff sample it and perhaps even publish it in a future issue. Fred Ruckhaus, famous for his candy and nut gorp, always brings a big bag on his ski tours. His recipe: 1 bag of jelly beans; 1 large bag of M&Ms; 1 can of cashews; 1 can or package of Spanish raisins; 1 pound of raisins.

50 years ago

The CMC will present a Kodachrome show about Colorado at Phipps Auditorium at the request of Dr. Alfred Bailey and the staff of the Denver Museum of Natural History. Each member may select and deliver up to fifteen Kodachrome slides to the club rooms. Carl Blaurock will be commentator.

June 15 was the club’s seventh annual tree planting trip. It was the fifth year of planting on the Mammoth Burn between Apex and Tolland. Thirty private cars were volunteered, eliminating the need for busses.

75 years ago

Down memory’s lane of all CMC outings, the evening campfire’s glow outshines all else. With Fred Morath’s patter scintillating through the evening entertainments, 1927 vies with other years for first place. On the first night, members were “introduced” to each other with the “How d’ya do” song and appropriate verses. Mystery, intrigue, and thrills reigned the night of the mock trials. Some evenings were whiled away telling fortunes and relating personal experiences.
