The mountains come to the American Mountaineering Center

“Wow”! Exclamations are often heard from folks who enter the American Mountaineering Center’s new atrium and look up at the climbing wall. The “rocks” are loosely modeled after the igneous basalt rock of Golden Cliffs on North Table Mountain about a mile away from the center.

Climbers on the Climbing Wall

The Colorado Mountain Club plans to use the climbing wall to foster knowledge and enjoyment of rock climbing through scheduled climbing activities on this aesthetically pleasing indoor climbing wall.

The club hopes that the wall will inspire and awe AMC visitors by bringing a sense of the mountains into the American Mountaineering Center as well as provide a simulated rock environment where basic rock climbing techniques and related topics are taught and demonstrated during scheduled educational activities. Related topics may include science, conservation, and history, in addition to standard rock climbing skills.

The new climbing wall is open to CMC members during scheduled times when an approved climbing wall leader ensures safety procedures. Call the club for more information.
