First backpack trip

Students from Parker, Colorado, experienced their first backpack trip with the Colorado Mountain Club recently. They discovered there’s nothing like being warm and safe, snuggled into your tent during a June snowstorm, or cooking macaroni and cheese under a kitchen fly as rain and wind pour from the sky while a range of storytelling fills the air.

The ten seventh graders from Renaissance Expeditionary Learning School didn’t mind the weather much; they were learning leadership skills to pass on to the second graders who joined them the second day. Everyone was thrilled when sunshine and blue skies emerged. Students enjoyed storytelling, playing nature games, trying out easy bouldering, and developing life-long learning skills.
