Mountain Club establishes Western Slope conservation staff presence
Clare Bastable We are thrilled to welcome Clare Bastable to the staff of the Colorado Mountain Club. Clare, as the second conservation staff person, will open the CMC western slope satellite office. Her job, specifically, will be to work with non-motorized recreation organizations to garner support for wilderness and land protection and to address land management issues. In addition, she will provide administrative support as requested to the four Western Slope groups (Gore Range, San Juan, Western Slope, and Aspen). Clare comes most recently from the Keystone Science School where she taught about Colorado natural science and environmental issues. Previously, she worked as a campus organizer for the National Wildlife Federation and served two years for the U.S. Peace Corps in the Ivory Coast. In the Peace Corps, her responsibilities included the creation of partnerships among different groups of people to work on environmental issues such as clean water, deforestation, and solid waste management. Clare’s conservation background is well complimented by her outdoor recreation and education experience. She has led backpacking trips and has taught rock climbing for Teen Adventure based in Estes Park. Moreover, she is an avid skier, hiker, mountain biker, and climber. Clare will be based in Grand Junction at the Colorado Environmental Coalition’s office at 1000 N 9th St, #29, Grand Junction, CO 81501. Her phone number is (970) 243-0002 and her e-mail address is bastac@ cmc.org. Everyone is welcome to drop by and visit with Clare. Even though Clare’s base is Grand Junction, she will be traveling throughout the Western Slope in her efforts to serve all four Western Slope groups. Clare’s position is funded through a grant from PEW and major donor contributions. |
