CMC Members participate in Flagstaff Mountain On June 24 and 25, the Flatirons Climbing Council (FCC) in conjunction with Boulder Mountain Parks and City Open Space conducted much-needed impact mitigation work on Flagstaff Mountain above Boulder in the Crown Rocks Bouldering Areas. Participants spent two thirteen-hour days moving sixty-four yards of topsoil, stone dust, and fourteen pallets of heavy border stones onto the heavily impacted soil surface near the famed Monkey Traverse, Capstan Rock, and Cloudshadow formations. CMC members Dan Bereck, Novella Maia, Jack Dennis, Gerry Roach, and Darran Bornn volunteered their time to the crew of nineteen volunteers. The work was made possible by an $8000 grant from the Access Fund. The FCC was formed to conserve the climbing resources and environment of the Flatirons, preserve access and the areas diverse climbing experience, and to work cooperatively to resolve climbing management issues. The FCC is a partnership between the Colorado Mountain Club, American Alpine Club, Access Fund, and the Action Committee for Eldorado. |
