241 Telemark Ski School |
This school is designed for backcountry cross-country skiers who want to learn to telemark or to improve their telemark technique. We emphasize backcountry skills. The course requires students to attend a mandatory lecture/video presentation held in January. The next four weekends are one-day field trips; students choose Saturdays or Sundays for instruction. Because of the physical demands of telemark skiing, you must have enough cross-country skiing experience to complete a ski tour of at least eight miles round-trip with 1400 ft elevation gain. Prerequisite to acceptance into the school is that you have either acquired a Denver Group Moderate ski classification by the time you register OR that you successfully complete one of three Moderate II qualifying ski trips offered (scheduled on December weekends). See Denver listing of trips in the Activity Schedule for details. To participate on a qualifying trip, you must be registered in the school; sign up with The CMC office. Telemark Ski School registration forms will be available in the November and December issues of the Mile High Mountaineer. The cost includes materials, instruction and lift tickets. Registration deadline is in mid-December. You must be a member of the Colorado Mountain Club before registering. |
