Members' Responsibilities

Trip participants have the obligation to acquaint themselves with the nature of the trip and to verify that it is within their capability and experience.

  1. They must accept responsibility for their own safety.
  2. They must be physically and mentally prepared for the venture they plan to undertake.
  3. They must be properly clothed and equipped and carry food appropriate to the trip.
  4. They must not go ahead of the front leader, drop behind the rear leader, or leave the party at any time without the permission of the leader, his co-leader, or his assistant leader(s).
  5. They must not leave the trip area until all party members have safely returned unless given permission by the trip leader.

Trails, camps, and surrounding areas will be left in as good or better condition than found.

  • Flowers, plants, shrubs, and trees will be enjoyed and not destroyed.
  • Litter and refuse will be carried out.
  • Camp fires will be completely extinguished before leaving camp.

Private property will be respected at all times.

U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, and any other federal or state land use regulations will be adhered to. All trips will be conducted in a "conservative spirit," so that reserves are available for emergencies. If circumstances suggest undue danger or the objective appears beyond the capability of the party, the trip will be abandoned. Every effort will be made to follow sound principles of safe hiking and climbing as presented in textbooks and schools of recognized merit.

Leaders' Rights

A minimum club party will number four persons, so that in case of accident, one person stays with the injured while the other two go for help, safeguarding one another.

The trip leader has the right to examine participant qualifications, clothing, equipment, and food, and to refuse participation to those s/he judges are unqualified or improperly equipped for his trip.

S/he has the right to set and maintain the pace, to vary the route as needed, and to turn the party back short of the objective if s/he feels conditions warrant doing so.
