The Colorado Mountain Club:

The Colorado Mountain Club is a non-profit, 10,000 person membership organization. Our State headquarters are located in The American Mountaineering Center in Golden, Colorado. The Club is governed by a Board of Directors. The staff consists of an Executive Director, Membership Services Director, Education Director, Public Lands Policy Director, Publications Manager, Marketing Director, Controller and support staff. The activities of the Club are led by dedicated volunteers.

to unite the energy, interest, and knowledge of the students, explorers, and lovers of the mountains of Colorado;

to collect and disseminate information regarding the Rocky mountain in behalf of science, literature, art and recreation;

to stimulate the public interest in our mountain areas;

to encourage the preservation of forests, fauna, and natural scenery; and

to render readily accessible the alpine attractions of this regions.

Mountain Discovery Program

The Mountain Discovery Program is a new initiative of The Colorado Mountain Club. We are developing a unique approach to science learning, where students discover the relationship between science and mountain recreation. The goal of the program is to “inspire lifelong stewardship and explorations of the mountains through hands-on learning activities”.

Intern Title:

Program Specialist

Purpose:

To plan and implement Mountain Discovery Program activities in the American Mountaineering Center.

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to the Education Director.

Responsibilities:

6. Develop activities and curriculum for the Mountain Discovery Program, in accordance with identified topics.

7. Plan, organize and conduct mountain-related interactive programs for all ages, in the American Mountaineering Center’s Interactive Student Lab.

8. Contribute to the Interactive Student Lab design team, including equipment research and invention of displays and interactive activities.

Qualifications:

9. Major in natural science, outdoor recreation or related field.

10. Experience teaching people from diverse backgrounds in environmental education and/or adventure education.

11. Familiarity with existing Environmental Education programs/facilities/organizations locally, statewide, and/or nationally.

12. Self-directed, innovative thinker.

13. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

14. Ability to use a personal computer, Word 97 software.

Fund Development Program

Intern Title:

Development Intern

Purpose:

To create a policies and procedures handbook for the State Fund Development Committee

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to the Executive Director

Responsibilities:

  1. Research and develop policies related to gift solicitation and recognition – including legal compliance.
  2. Develop procedures to comply with policies

Qualifications:

3. Major in Non-profit management or related field

4. Interest in fund development

5. Ability to work independently

6. Experience in working with volunteers
