Denver Group Member Classification System

To have safe and enjoyable hikes, with participants of compatible ability, members obtain a classification that qualifies them to go on the harder trips without needing to get the leaders permission. This way members don't have to know the trip leader in order to go on the harder trips. A new member obtains the classifications by going on Club trips and taking courses offered by the Club.

The member classification system applies only to Denver Group's harder trips: class "C" and "D" hikes; "moderate" and "advanced" ski tours. All members can go on the other trips by simply registering through the Club office. Those without the classification may still register for the harder trips after obtaining the trip leader's permission.

School waivers are available for experienced members who already posses skills taught in the school. These are the Wilderness Trekking School for a "C" classification and the Basic Mountaineering School for a "D" classification. Please see the school's page for information on obtaining a waiver.
