111 Avalanche School |

|
Every winter backcountry traveller - skier, snowshoer, climber, backpacker - should have basic knowledge of avalanche safety. The Denver Group and The Colorado Avalanche Information Center offer a basic avalanche course which will help you recognize when and where avalanche danger may exist and help you learn rescue techniques. For example, dangerous slopes are not always obvious: gentle, tree-covered slopes can be deadly avalanche areas. To receive CMC credit, you must attend both lectures and a field session. The course is offered three or four times a year. Watch the Mile High Mountaineer for exact dates. Field sessions will be scheduled for the weekend following each class. The lectures will be at The American Mountaineering Center. Supplemental field trips on various subjects may be given, such as route finding, transceiver practice and emergency shelters. Registration forms and further information will be available in the Mile High Mountaineer. See also the list of courses at the Colorado Avalanche Information Center for other opportunities. |
