Activities for Members |

"Render readily accessible the alpine attractions of this region."The Colorado Mountain Club (CMC) offers many mountain oriented activities at locations from cities to the highest mountains. There are activities for entertainment, education, and community involvement. Members participate at many levels including: following a leader along a shady trail beside gently cascading streams to lunch by a quiet lake; helping a student learn to negotiate an alpine rock wall; and leading expeditions up high peaks in remote regions of the world. With 3,000 mountain activities scheduled each year, there are plenty of opportunities for members to get into the mountains. Activity Schedules are sent to CMC members listing the mountain activities. The schedules are published twice a year. Below is a list of the type of activities offered followed by more information on that activity.
AvailabilityAs a CMC member you are free to participate in any CMC trip, school or other activity no matter what Group you belong to. You will have to meet the same entrance requirements as the members of the sponsoring Group. Many of the popular activities fill up early and some Groups have a cut-off time for registrations. While schools are listed here to show what is available to members and are a good member benefit, schools are not always available to new members. The beginner level schools are very popular and all schools limit the number of students by the number of qualified volunteers instructing. Most schools are provided to improve the skills of participants on CMC trips. That is the reason the school tuition is kept low compared to guide services. The advanced schools will limit entrance to members meeting prerequisites such as graduation or a waiver from one of the other CMC schools. Schools may further limit entry by giving preference to volunteers, number of years in the club and participation on Club trips. If the only reason you join the CMC is to take an advanced school, you will probably be disappointed. Adopt-A-WildernessThe Adopt-A-Wilderness hikes are intended to generate an appreciation of the benefits of wilderness areas. Hikes involve light trail maintenance, such as picking up trash, removing fire rings, and noting trail conditions for reports to the U.S. Forest Service. They are offered during the summer season.
