The Colorado
Mountain Club Press accepts unsolicited
manuscripts or proposals that deal
with the areas in which we publish. Currently
we publish books and calendars dealing with
the outdoors in four main categories: travel/adventure
guides, outdoor education, nature/conservation,
and history/adventure narrative. We also
publish children's books that mirror the
four main categories for our adult readers.
All of our books are aimed at fulfilling
the mission of the Colorado Mountain Club:
to collect and disseminate information regarding
the outdoor environment in behalf of science,
literature, art and recreation.
Subjects that we publish typically deal
with non-motorized, self-propelled sports
and activities; including hiking, climbing
and mountaineering, backcountry skiing,
snowshoeing, mountain bicycling, rafting
and kayaking, nature photography, birding
and plant identification, and adventure
travel. Our primary area of interest is
Colorado, the Rocky Mountain region, and
the western United States, but we do consider
projects that explore the outdoors anywhere
in the great mountain regions of the world.
Before you submit a manuscript or proposal,
please familiarize yourself with our current
list of books to make sure that your project
fits our mission. We do not publish fiction,
history or narrative not dealing with outdoor
adventures, or outdoor books dealing with
gardening, hunting, fishing or motorized
sports.
If you have a project that you believe fits
our publishing program, we would be happy
to take a look at it. The review process
can take up to several weeks. No contract
or agreement is issued until a project has
been accepted for publication. Please submit
the following materials:
• A statement that describes
your purpose in writing the book, and its
scope and significance.
• A complete Table of
Contents
• At least three complete
chapters of the proposed book (double spaced)
• Information about illustrations
or photographs for the book, along with
samples (photocopies)
• If the book is not complete,
a timetable for completion
• Describe the audience
or market for the book
• Compare the book to
any existing, competitive titles
• Information about the
author's background, including any previously
published titles
Please do not send original manuscripts
or photographs; send only photocopies or
electronic discs in Microsoft Word or WordPerfect
formats. Please do not call about your submission;
we will inform you of our decision by mail.
We do not accept submissions by email. If
you would like the materials you've sent
returned, enclose an SASE with appropriate
postage. Send your manuscript, proposal
or query to:
