We are
organized:
• to unite the energy,
interest and knowledge of the students and
lovers of the mountains of Colorado;
• to collect and disseminate
information regarding the Rocky Mountains
in behalf of science, literature, art and
recreation;
• to stimulate the public
interest in our mountain areas;
• to encourage the preservation
of forest, flower, fauna and natural scenery;
and
• to render readily accessible
the alpine attractions of this region.
We are the Colorado Mountain
Club Press, the publishing division
of the largest recreation, outdoor education
and conservation organization in the Rocky
Mountains. You'll find our books and calendars
at better bookstores and outdoor retailers.
Most of our books are written by, field
checked by, and designed by members of the
Colorado Mountain Club, who like you, are
outdoor enthusiasts, dedicated to exploring,
preserving and enjoying the natural world.
Every effort is made to make our titles
the most accurate, informative and easy-to-use
books possible. Our members hope you like
what you see in our books and calendars,
and enjoy the great places we lead you to.
The Colorado Mountain Club, founded in 1912,
today boasts over 10,000 members and annually
leads 2,000 outings into our beloved Colorado
Rockies - that's why we've earned the right
to say that we are "experts in the
Rockies." The Club has been active
in publishing for over half-a-century, and
one of our most definitive books, Guide
to the Colorado Mountains (or Ormes as it's
affectionately known,) has been in continuous
publication for 50 years, earning the title
of the best-selling Colorado book of all
time, with 250,000 copies sold to date.
If you are in Golden, drop by to visit us
at the fantastic American Mountaineering
Center. You'll find our latest books in
the Gift Shop, but you'll want to stay and
explore the largest mountaineering library
in the Western Hemisphere, or hang-out on
the state-of-the-art climbing wall, or attend
one of the fun programs or events happening
in our theater/auditorium.
While you're out there exploring the great
outdoors, hopefully with our books in hand,
we'd love to hear from you if you have any
comments or corrections (or even just a
fun story to tell.) And thanks for taking
us along on your next adventure.
