Rock Climbing Courses

Intro to Rock Climbing

Indoor and outdoor climbing instruction for youth with little or no climbing experience, but lots of interest! Course focuses on teambuilding, decision-making, and the basics of rock climbing. Participants will learn about outdoor safety, equipment, knot tying, belaying, and rappelling in a small, supportive environment. Five day format includes two days of indoor climbing and three days of outdoor climbing. Maximum 12 participants and minimum 6. .

Course meets Mon. - Fri. 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the American Mountaineering Center (AMC) in downtown Golden with daily field trips to local open space parks. Drop-off and pick-up is at the AMC.

Ages: 11-15 years old.

Fee: $275. Includes transportation during course, gear use, and snacks. $25 discount for siblings or participants registering for two or more YEP summer courses. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE!

Intermediate Rock Climbing I

Climbing instruction designed for youth with some climbing experience, and an interest in gaining more experience in outdoor terrain. Participants will engage in a teambuilding ropes course, improve skills, learn new techniques, and try a multi-pitch climb lead by trained staff. Five day format includes half day at a high ropes course, one day of indoor climbing, and three days of outdoor climbing (weather permitting). Previous climbing experience recommended. Further instruction designed for youth with an interest in achieving personal goals. Course content will focus on 'challenge by choice' as individuals learn about legendary climbers, and work at advancing strength and technique. Participants will engage in a teambuilding ropes course, practice climbing outdoors at various locations, and try a multi-pitch climb lead by trained staff. Five day format includes half day at a high ropes course and four days of outdoor climbing (weather permitting). Previous climbing experience recommended. Maximum 12 participants and minimum 6. Advanced Rock Climbing

Advanced skills for youth who have taken a previous Intermediate Rock course. Individualized course instruction is designed to introduce the physics of climbing. Participants will learn the basics of gear placement, practice a multi-pitch climb led by trained staff, and understand the skills needed to become 'independent' lead climbers. Previous climbing experience is required. Maximum 8 participants and minimum 4. Register on-line by clicking the session below.

Course meets Tuesday- Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the American Mountaineering Center (AMC) in downtown Golden with daily field trips to local open space parks. Drop-off and pick-up is at the AMC.
