HISTORY of the Youth Education Program

The vision for the Youth Education Program was inspired as the CMC became engaged as a partner in the American Mountaineering Center during the early 1990's. The idea was to share the Colorado Mountain Club's mission with a wider audience, specifically youth. In addition, as the facility emerged into a world class center complete with auditorium, conference center, and library it became an ideal destination for school and youth group field trips.

Programming began in 1999 and has expanded annually since then.

YEP! Goals:

• Facilitate understanding and respect for mountain environments.

• Foster well-being through self-awareness, physical activity, & team-building.

• Stimulate interest in academic topics (reading & writing, math, science, social studies, visual art) through mountain-related recreation.
